Entering
- No procedure is required when entering the library.
- Please be quiet and do not eat or drink in the library.
Reading
- Materials except for rare books and AV materials are all on the open stacks.
- After using them, please return to where they were.
- If you need to use rare books or AV materials, please ask the library staff at the library counter.

Holding Materials
- Science Library holds materials that shows "Science" on the OPAC.
- If status on the OPAC shows "in laboratory", it means it is in a laboratory. If you wish to use it, please ask at the Library counter.

Rare Books
- IKENO Bunko
About 350 books and 281 reprints are collected by Dr. IKENO Seiichiro (1866-1943), who is a pioneer of experimental genetics. - Hilbert Bunko
11,661 reprints are presented to D. Hilbert (1862-1943), who is a mathematician, from the mathematician of the world.
Borrowing
- To borrow books or other materials, please submit your ID/library card at the library counter.
- Materials not available for borrowing: reference books, newspapers, newly arrived journals (within the last 10 days), rare books, maps
- You can temporarily borrow those above (except rare books) to make a photocopy. Please fill out an application form and return them on the same day.
- Self-checkout machines are available for borrowing book(s). Follow the message displayed on the screen.[How to use(Japanese)]
- Books with no barcode on the cover cannot be handled. Please come to the circulation desk
- Returning and renewing services are not available. Please apply at the counter. You can also renew from the Web.

- Return materials that you borrowed to the library counter within the due date.
- When the library is closed, return them to the book drop outside (located in front of the library).
- Materials borrowed from other libraries, should be returned to where they were.
- Reservation is available for the material on loan. Search it on the OPAC, press the "reserve" button and log in with THERS account/Password. →[Guide Sheet: Reserve Books That are Currently on Loan]
- When the material returns, you will be informed via E-mail.
- It depends on your affiliation whether it is possible to make copies by university expense (Management Expenses Grants).
Please ask at the office of your department (or your laboratory) if you can make copies. - Graduate students and faculty can use their Student ID / Staff ID (IC card) as a copy card.
- Please fill in "application form for copy services", which are located near the machines and put it in the box placed nearby.
- If you don't have your Student ID / Staff ID (IC card), please confirm at your laboratory whether photocopying (university expence) is possible or not and then come to the counter.
- Photocopying library materials using private expenses is not possible in the Science Library. Please borrow or apply for temporary borrowing first, and then use a copy machine outside.
- If a book or journal you want is not available in Nagoya University (your campus), you can order copy of an article or book from other libraries.
- Nagoya University Library covers a part of the charge of ILL from April, 2013. For more details, please see the document

- You can order via the OPAC. Please click the "InterLibrary Copy Request" or "InterLibrary Loan Request" on the OPAC top and enter information of the book/journal/article. Please choose "Science" for "pick-up library". →[Guide Sheet: Interlibrary Loan/Copy Request]
- You can use libraries of other universities with a Nagoya University ID Card, but some libraries may require an appointment in advance or/and a letter of introduction to use their library resources. Please check the library guides of visiting library or contact the Science Library.
- Before visiting, please check the OPAC or catalogs of each library.
- Please obey the rules of the libraries.
- Equipment
- 12 seats in each room (*24 seats - when partition wall is removed and is used as one room.)
- 1 projector
- 1 whiteboard (The wall which divides the two rooms are used as a whiteboard.)
- How to use
- The Meeting Room is on the 2nd floor of the Science Library.
- You can use the rooms for meeting or group learning.
- When there is no reservation, you can use the room freely.
- The reservation of the day is posted on the door of the room, so you can check it before using it.
- If you need to keep the room, you can make a reservation.(Other Departments / University members:Not available)
- Service hours:9:00~17:00(One group can reserve up to 4 hours per day)
- You can reserve from 4 weeks ahead.

- 3 Radio cassette recorder
- How to use
- You can borrow the key of the audiovisual's shelves and the headphone in exchange for your NUID card. Please make a request at the counter.
- Borrowing of audiovisual materials differ depending on the material.
